How much do you love Coffee, more than your health?

“A Coffee a day keeps Grumpy away .”

If you wake up and can't function without first taking that Coffee of your choice, does that mean your addicted? Do you really need that caffeine to be lively and not feel sluggish, yes it stimulates your nervous system but why are some people more affected by having a Coffee than others? I can take on board a Coffee and not feel any effect but I've seen friends get jittery and anxious, almost instantly?

When caffeine enters your bloodstream through your stomach and intestines, it circulates your body and joins up with a number of adenosine receptors which are in your brain. Each person’s adenosine receptors are different due to genetics, and caffeine might not bind well with them. Therefore people, where caffeine doesn't seem to effect them, probably do not have very sticky receptors. If the effects of caffeine last longer for you than others, it means, most likely, that your liver metabolizes it slower due to a lower production of the enzyme that acts on caffeine. Also people who have been coffee drinkers for years can build up a tolerance to caffeine, so it loses its edge.

8 Reasons

Coffee shops, are they now an intrinsic part of British Life?

According to the World Coffee Portal’s 2021 survey, over a fifth of UK coffee drinkers have four or more cups of coffee a day, creating a supply and demand chain, and therefore a lot of opportunity for coffee shops to prosper. From the same survey, over a fifth also stated they visited a coffee shop up to three times a week. People are choosing to go into coffee establishments to meet and socialise for pleasure, but also to meet for business. The coffee brand, taste and accompanying products, as well as the ambience within the shops environment are key to choices made. It seems apparent that we are very quickly becoming coffee snobs, the standard instant coffee is now frowned upon by many and only premium brand coffees from across the world are acceptable to the modern day UK consumer.

Some good and bad about Coffee

To much sugar in our Coffee?

Dentists are doing themselves out of work by warning their clients to avoid hot drinks from main chain coffee shops because of the high sugar content, especially those seasonal hot drinks. Caffe Nero's 'Mint Chocolate Chip Hot Chocolate', a favourite of my son, is nearly 500 kcal and contains 63.5g of sugar. According to the NHS, more than 22.5g of total sugars per 100g is high, so this delight from Caffe Nero is trebling those advisory numbers advised for good health. So be careful adding your syrup or caramel to your Mocha's or Frappuccino's, it might very well add taste but it can also add to your waistline and contribute to poor health in excess.

Spooktacular

Sugar lacks nutritional benefits and can lead to weight gain, type 2 diabetes, tooth decay and other negative health issues. So Kinetics Gym and Personal Training after Halloween is providing a 3 week sugar detox with alternative treats and good health. So, look out for your opportunity to join our 'Spooktcaular Sugar Detox' and get trim before the holidays.

Summary:

Drink black Coffee in moderation to get the benefits of caffeine and avoid the downfalls, also remember not to be grumpy! Easy for me to say 😂
