Rowing Champion Boat Race Potential?

October 02, 20222 min read

Rowing is perhaps the toughest of sports. Once the race starts, there are no timeouts, no substitutions. It calls upon the limits of human endurance. – George Pocock

To Row or not to Row?

Whether it is your intention to be the new Steve Redgrave - Helen Glover or just the best rower in the gym. The reason for rowing is your reason, but most people row because it provides a wonderful 'mixed bag' to test the average human body and respective fitness levels. Muscular endurance, aerobic endurance, flexibility, and even raw strength and power, are all components of fitness that can be measured on a Concept 2 rower.

rowing

Oxford or Cambridge team potential or just a method of a warm up or cool down before or after another training discipline or sport. Many Gym goers and trainers enjoy rowing as a regular form of exercise with purpose. Its value to improve fitness seriously, cannot be underestimated, indeed as a designated element of a disciplined training programme it can yield amazing results.

First, technique and coordination must be practiced, coached even, then improved to ensure that rowing is a means to an end, improved fitness, not the end of your training through injury. Once a smooth technique is mastered and the legs, arms and torso move in harmony you can start aiming for objectives over a set distance and record a time to compare to normative data.

2000m is a gold standard rowing distance that most regular trainers would attempt to achieve in sub 10 minutes, I myself prefer to row as part of my cardio programme for around 15 minutes. My own target is to achieve sub 15minutes for 3000m but on a good day when I feel great I will get closer to 13:10.

Many sprint athletes or power athletes will warm up thoroughly but then go all out for 500m this distance seems easy until you try and it becomes an anaerobic test that only a very chosen few confess to enjoy.
